There is much inspiration to be found throughout the Bible. I feel like sharing a few of my personal favorites.
Matthew 7:1
“Judge not, lest you be judged.”
We all know people who are quick to judge others but are seemingly unaware of their own shortcomings. I prefer to let God be my judge. Only He knows what is in my heart and in my mind.
John 8:7
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Differently worded than Matthew 7:1, but the meaning is the same.
John 8:32
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
James 2:17-20
In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good!
At the height of His agony, at the very moment when most victims of crucifixion might scream out in fury with a curse, Luke 23:34
tells us that Jesus prayed for forgiveness for His tormentors:
“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
I could never comprehend how Christ dying on the cross would save us of our sins. But after giving it some thought, I believe if he could forgive them for what they were doing to him, then we could each be forgiven for our transgressions.
Earlier, the subject of forgiveness was addressed in the Lord’s Prayer:
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.”
